A plain-language account of how Hearthline is funded and what that means for what you read here.

Who is publishing this
Hearthline is an independent editorial publication owned and operated by its founding editor, Imogen Hale, who is also the editor-in-chief and the person legally responsible for the publication's content. There is no parent company, no outside investor, and no commercial relationship with any retailer or manufacturer beyond the Amazon Associates Program described below. Operating address: Hearthline, Editorial Office, Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom. Contact: editors@hearthline.com.
Amazon Associates Program
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Hearthline is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
What this means in practice
When a reader clicks a link from Hearthline to Amazon and then purchases a product, Amazon pays us a small percentage of the sale. The price the reader pays is not affected. The commission is paid by Amazon out of its margin, not added to the cost of the product.
Which links are affiliate links?
Every link to amazon.com on Hearthline is an affiliate link. We do not use shortened (amzn.to) links — all our outbound Amazon URLs are full, canonical addresses with our associate tag attached. All affiliate links are marked with the relationship rel="sponsored nofollow noopener noreferrer" and open in a new tab.
Links to other websites — manufacturers' own sites, news articles, reference material — are not affiliate links. We earn nothing from them.
How this affects what we publish
It does not affect what we recommend, but we owe readers a clear account of the incentive structure:
- We choose what to review on editorial grounds, not commercial ones.
- We have published reviews that recommend against a product, even when an affiliate link existed.
- We have declined to publish reviews of products our reviewers did not like enough to recommend.
- We do not increase our coverage of higher-commission categories.
Our full editorial-independence policy is set out in our editorial standards.
Pricing & availability
Hearthline does not display real-time prices, claim sales, or imply urgency. Any figure mentioned in a piece is shown as a price band ("approximately ninety dollars") and may be out of date. For current pricing and availability, follow the link to Amazon.
Other affiliate or sponsorship arrangements
At the time of writing, Hearthline participates only in the Amazon Associates Program. We do not run paid placements, sponsored posts, or "promoted" coverage. If this changes in the future, the change will be reflected here and clearly disclosed in any affected piece.
